Emile Picard

Biography
Émile Picard is a young and talented budding artist, studying in fine arts. CABO is his first exhibition, first of a long career!

Artistic approach
The brown bin holds an important place for the family that Emile met for the project. The title "Le Vagabond" refers to the fact that the bin seems to always change location, mysteriously. The gnome, taken from the french movie Amelie Poulin, appears like a singular companion to the bin.

Emmanuel Laflamme

Biography
Emmanuel Laflamme was born in 1984 in Montreal. A self-taught artist, he worked as a designer on animated series and has been involved with the advertising, movie and gaming industries.

Artistic approach
Emmanuel Laflamme recycles popular imagery with humour, creating scenes with strong meaning that lead us to smile and think. Like the surrealists, he develops representations with an apparent impossibility that captures the viewer's attention. He creates his works like a creative director who would have nothing to sell. Combining cultural references, he diverts ancient and modern myths to serve us his perspective on the world, at once tender and critical. The absurd is his playground, the anachronism his specialty.

Felix Arsenault

Biography
Félix Arsenault started to draw a lot during his five years working in a advertising agency in Montréal. He recently painted a lard hand made skatepark and is now working on a motion design project adressing trauma with kids. Félix Arsenault's work will be exhibited in a coffee shop by the end of September.

Artistic approach
His love for art came by surprise. Five years ago, Félix Arsenault was lucky to met a mentor. And the rest is history. When he works on a new project of creation, ideas often come in unexpected ways. If he is doing something serious or that is boring to him, that's when his head starts to boil with ideas for creative projects. When that happens, he stops what he is doing to write a note or draw his ideas, he has to.

Frédéric Chabot

Biography
Frédéric Chabot is a visual artist from Montreal with a diploma in visual arts from Cegep Saint-Laurent. He has made several murals in Montreal and around.

Artistic approach
The work of Frédéric comes from a desire to integrate the work of painting with the environment, in many different and extreme ways. In murals, the use of the backgrounds are systematic, by « dropping» pieces on the surface. In Galleries, different shaped canvas techniques are recommanded to enhance the walls of the place. As a result, simple concave shapes, such as busts, vases, fish or trees have been part of my language for a long time.

Fred P Corson

Biography
Frédérique P Corson is passionate about art, design, and project management. Originally from Mauritius, she moved to Montreal in 2008 to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts, followed by two specialized graduate diplomas in cultural management and event design. After graduating, she founded a public space and events design collective called le Clan Content with two peers. Together, they create art and urban installations in the public space. She also joined the more militant art collective ATSA with whom she continues to collaborate. More recently she has dedicated herself to creating immersive and collaborative experiences for large scale events.

Artistic approach
In March, Fred P Corson began a drawing and correspondence project called Staying Home. This series of postal cards illustrated different points of view from her apartment in Montreal. She turns to her personal space - her home - which she parses apart and represents through drawing from observation. This is how, day after day, over 100 sequential days, Frédérique dedicated herself to creating a line drawing on a blank postcard that she then addressed to various recipients. The artist has drawn similar inspiration from the CABO project; our brown bins are an extension of our home, nestled into the curbside of our community and shared public spaces. This time, the artist has her sights set on the house of one of her pen pals, a resident of the Plateau, with the intent of drawing the reality from the perspective of the brown bin, a mere three feet above the sidewalk.

Ivan Atehortua

Biography
Ivan Atehortua is a self-taught artist born in Colombia into a large family of six brothers and sisters. He arrived in Quebec in October 2012 and currently lives in Montreal. With his pseudonym «Solal comics» Ivan experimented with several techniques, starting with caricature, collage, and urban art. His latest artpiece, uses found objects to create paintings with different techniques. His first presentation was in 2015 during Yes Montreal at their Art Expo at the St-James Theater. Subsequently, he was chosen as one of the artists participating in the Fresh Paint Gallery 2015 summer exhibition. In 2016, Ivan won the first prize at the Pierrefonds art competition. After participating in severa group exhibitions in Montreal, Ivan will have his first solo exhibition at the Meteque Gallery in September 2020.

Artistic approach
Ivan uses art as a tool for self-discovery. For him, art is a private diary that helps him understand himself by reflecting in his inner world to the outside world. Creating art has allowed him to explore how we construct our identities by welcoming memories and references that we constantly acquire. He re-created this process by collecting objects and by creating visual stories with them. He calls these compositions «visual jams» because he uses multiple techniques such as collage, assemblage, mixed techniques, etc…

Julian Palma

Biography
I am a multidisciplinary artist who also works as a muralist, illustrator or animator. Over the past fifteen years, I have worked on many mural projects as a coordinator and designer and have been an illustrator for different publishing houses in Colombia (my homeland) and Spain. I arrived in Montreal in 2011, where I became part of Montreal's cultural life by participating in various events (Fresh Paint Gallery, 2011, Artv Studio and Montreal Créative). Since 2015, I have been collaborating with the organization MU, as an artist, coordinator and artist assistant. My work is inspired by the fluid forms of nature, the interconnection of the elements.

Artistic approach
Based on my orgins as a Colombian, colors and tropical nature have strongly influenced my work. The «magical realism» of literature had been my quest in images. I am interested in creating images that will be seen more than once, in which interpretation is always an individual experience. My work is caractarized by a palette of bright and vibrant colors. My work indulge into an organic imaginary where flora and fauna merge to create chimerical beings in a continuum of dynamic shapes and colors.

Biography
Nikki is a German-Canadian artist, originally from rural Manitoba. In 2014 she moved to Montreal to pursue new creative outlets and found herself drawn to Montreal’s thriving urban art scene. Ojo

Biography
Ojo has always had a drawing practice and only started painting 3 years ago. His work questions what surrounds him, including the place that hold humans in the contemporary world, alienated by the fast paced lifestyle we evolve in.

Artistic approach
Ojo constantly place himself in a position of vulnerability and lost of controle when creating. The gap between the artist and the object has always been part of his practice through painting from the other hand, spray paint, collage, segmentation of the art piece and other technics. This is how he is able to express his rebelion against the constant pressure on performance, the order, the structured, even the beauty. Ojo's work appears like a celebration of the first and raw idea, the imperfection, the honesty in the mistake. A celebration of colours and art for art's sake.

Rabot

Biography

After a DEC in visual arts at Collège Lionel-Groulx, a bifurcation in cabinetmaking and two years of sabbatical later, he began a BAC in comics at the University of Quebec in Outaouais from where he graduated in April 2015. Since then on his return to Montreal, he devoted himself to comics and illustration. He has published two books (À quoi bon (2017), Respire (2019)), fanzines, he illustrated a series of strips for ComédiHA! and also facilitated comic strip workshops.

Artistic approach

Rabot loves Cats, Dragonball, and House in Town. He is a freelance comic book author and illustrator based in Montreal. The family he was assigned to for the CABO project had explained that they had resided in their Victorian cottage for 20 years. Initially, they made their own compost in a wooden bin at the back of their backyard, until there was a rat infestation in the neighborhood. Subsequently, the borough made a change in waste management with the distribution of the brown bin that is still used today. For the realization of his work on the bin, he wanted to rediscover the wood look of their old compost bin, while making a nod to the anecdote of rodents. He added his touch by incorporating one of his favorite animals, the raccoon, which is also a fan of leftovers. He seasoned it all with the trashy elements of the compost, from bin juice, to rotting food and unwanted tenants.
