To encourage you to experience Montréal at the same locations where the interviews were recorded, we’ve selected one park per neighbourhood in which we propose three audio trails. The trails are a permanent installation in these parks, and an official group walk is planned to unveil this beautiful project!
The Cuisine ton quartier audio trail is an invitation to take a thoughtful, attentive walk and discover the paths and challenges faced by the refugees and immigrants who make up the social fabric of Montreal’s neighbourhoods.
Listen to the personal accounts of immigrants, social and community outreach workers, members of the host society and committed artists. Participate from home or enjoy an immersive experience in person with a guided audio tour of the neighbourhoods at your own pace.
The 3 audio trails offer different types of content for a balanced listening experience: community issues; the perspectives of socially engaged artists; and personal accounts by neighbourhood residents. Feel free to walk about while listening to the audio capsules and immerse yourself in the ambient sounds. Each of our informative panels along the trails has been carefully thought out to fit the words and backgrounds of the participants.
On-site, simply take a photo of the QR code on each trail panel and then listen to the personal accounts of immigrants, the persons who help them integrate into the host society, and committed artists who draw inspiration from them! Open your ears and your heart, and enjoy the encounters! (Think ahead: bring your headphones or earbuds.)

ATSA – When Art Takes Action invites the general public to the launch of the Cuisine ton quartier audio trail, in each of the three new boroughs! Expect performances, workshops, discussions and guided tours of the trails. A festive and free event for the whole family!
WELCOME TO PARC GONCOURT IN ANJOU!
On July 9, from 2 to 6 p.m., with the participation of the following organizations: CHORRA (Centre Humanitaire d’Organisation de Ressources et de Référence d’Anjou), YMCA Anjou, and PAAL with a drawing workshop for the kids!
The following artists will perform for our enjoyment: the band ASAKA providing Berber music, two artists from the Beijing Opera, the Carrefour Solidarité Anjou choir, and Baharan Baniahmadi will put on a theatrical performance. We continue our collaboration with the Ample Man Danse company and its choreographic project Dérivations, an intimate improvisational and composed dance between a passerby and an experienced dancer in a public space, inspired by listening to the personal accounts from the Cuisine ton quartier podcasts.
WELCOME TO PARC MÉNARD IN LASALLE!
On July 16, from 1 to 5 p.m., in collaboration with AIR-SOM Centre Prisme and the participation of: Bienvenue à l’Immigrant, Centre culturel et communautaire Henri-Lemieux, AIR-SOM Centre Prisme and PAAL.
As well, artist Nora Golic will offer a mask workshop; musician Réginald Bonga, a percussion workshop; and the Ample Man Danse company will perform.
WELCOME TO PARC ARTHUR-THERRIEN IN VERDUN!
On July 22 from 4 to 7 p.m., with the participation of the following organizations: Mamies immigrantes pour le développement et l’intégration, Centre social d’aide aux immigrants, and PAAL.
The following artists will perform for our enjoyment: percussionist Reginald Bonga, an enthusiast of voodoo jazz, a genre inspired by traditional Haitian music; artist and director Sophie Gee will present a theatrical performance, as will Baharan Baniahmadi; and Aly Keita will put on a dance and acrobatics show. Plus, dancers from the Ample Man Danse company!

The Dérivations project is an intimate improvisational and composed dance between a passerby and an experienced dancer from the Ample Man Danse company, in a public space, inspired by listening to stories of immigration and citizen action excerpted from the Cuisine ton quartier podcasts. During the performances, the dancer asks passersby to propose simple movements that can be integrated into the dance, and to choose the soundtrack to accompany the story. Dérivations is an ephemeral work, collective and spontaneous, where words drive the movement and the passerby inspires it.
Thanks to Simon, the company’s artistic director, and his talented dancers: Nasim Lootij, Gabriela Jovian-Mazon and Juanse Hoyos.
We have had the opportunity to present Dérivations in 4 Montréal boroughs in 2021:
- Martin-Luther-King park in Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-De-Grâce
- Henri-Bourassa park in Montréal-Nord
- Painter park in Saint-Laurent
- George-Springate park in Pierrefonds-Roxboro.
