Through CUISINE TON QUARTIER: PODCAST TRAILS, ATSA explores the issues faced by refugees and immigrants, many of them artists, and by those who help them build a new home. In all, 82 interviews constituting profound and insightful testimonials. A window onto today’s diversified Québec. An invitation to take a thoughtful, attentive walk by following the signage associated with the audio trails in seven Montreal boroughs (with several suggested trails for each), and available for online listening.
There once was Cuisine ton quartier, a local project that forged ties, got tongues wagging and addressed issues related to migration. Cuisine ton quartier is the offspring of Cuisine ta ville, a major biennial event created and produced by ATSA on Montreal’s Place des Festivals to immerse the public – through art, cooking, testimonials and conferences – in a range of issues revolving around migration and cultural integration. In 2020, Cuisine ta ville was all set to tour seven Montreal boroughs, but the pandemic changed things. The project has now evolved into a guided audio tour!
Seven boroughs have been selected within the framework of the Ville de Montreal’s territoires d’inclusion prioritaires (TIP) initiative for creating high-priority regions for the inclusion of culturally diverse people, the community outreach workers who support them and the artists who draw inspiration from their rich and highly personal life stories.
Each borough is attributed 12 to 16 podcast episodes lasting 6 to 35 minutes each. These bring messages of peace, of joy, of awareness. They contain stories of difficult life experiences, shared in all their authenticity – stories that inspire us to bravery and add to our collective wisdom.

To encourage you to experience your Montreal on the sites where the interviews were recorded, we selected one park per neighbourhood and we’ve attached signage to lampposts to indicate three different audio trails: one discussing community issues, another featuring the words of engaged artists, and a third with testimonials by neighbourhood residents. The trails will remain permanently in place in the following parks, and there will be a day officially devoted to group walks of the commented audio trails so everyone can discover this wondeful project!
