ARTIST STATEMENT |ACTORS, COLLABORATORS AND VOLONTEERS-FRENCH
While occupying the public space was second nature to ATSA, this work marked the first time the collective took over a theatre, transforming the venue and an adjacent street into a temporary spa. A production at the crossroads of theatre, installation and performance art, where the cult of well-being and citizen engagement, the show's two keystones, serve as pretexts for numerous, thought-provoking encounters. Below, the artists reflect upon the event...

ATSA'S SE METTRE DANS L'EAU CHAUDE A SOLD-OUT EVENT
Many thanks to the Espace Libre theatre, the actors, our partners and collaborators, and our team of dynamic and skilled volunteers who put in some 700 hours of work and without whom the show would not have gone on. And of course, to our audience, who were most game and willing to get wet, leading to some stimulating conversations and often unusual encounters!

Perfectly in its element occupying a public space, ATSA breaks new ground by occupying for the first time a theatre, with its Se mettre dans l’eau chaude / Into Hot Water.
From June 10 through 15
Espace Libre will be transformed into a spa to offer you a theatrical/therapeutic trail guided by actors
Geneviève Rochette, Jean-François Nadeau and Mylène Roy.
Select either the Wet or Dry option, then let yourself be guided along the trail, where a whirlpool, sauna, bubbly and yoga will serve as icebreakers to conversation!
Do our cult of well-being and our need to “switch off” trump our responsibilities to society, or have these phenomena evolved as a survival mechanism in the face of the inhumanity in our midst? What is the nature of the tug we feel in our quest to, simultaneously, legitimately exercise this “right” to leisure while playing an active role as citizens?
Your experience at Espace Libre (renamed Spa Libre for the occasion) will awaken in you a fresh perspective on your need for comfort and your need for involvement. A moment of relaxation that is truly original—in the tradition of 15 years of socially engaged productions by ATSA!
WELCOME TO THE FREE SPA!
